GENERAL INFORMATION

    Department of History is one of the first fifteen departments which were established when the university was founded in 1963. In the past forty years, because of the efforts of its faculty, the department has scored excellent development. At present, the department has 19 full-time and 3 part-time teachers offering more than 30 courses to approximately 270 undergraduate students.

    The teaching of the department has aimed at providing the students when graduate with enough basic training and special knowledge in history either to continue to pursue advanced training in the graduate school or to take jobs which need historical knowledge. To accomplish this purpose, the department has always tried to give the students a balancededucationin both Chinese and Westernhistory, and historical facts and methodological theories.

 

 

 

ADMISSION

    There are four ways through which a student can enter the department:

1)      Successfully pass the Joint Entrance Examination of the Universities and Independent Colleges held every summer. Each year, about 65 freshmen are enrolled in this way. 

2)      Successfully pass Selection on Recommendation. Each year since 1996, no more than 5 freshmen are selected from among about 20studemts that are recommended by middle high schools.

3)      Successfully pass the inter-departmental transferring procedure. Sophomore and junior students of other departments of the university can apply for admission to the History Department. Applicants must take the examinations in General History of China and General World History, and submit academic records.

4)      Successfully pass the inter-university transferring examination. Sophomore and junior students of other universities and independent colleges can participate in the transferring examination held every summer. Applicants must take the examinations in Chinese, English, General History of China and General World History. The junior students have to take a Contemporary Chinese History examination in addition.

 

 

 

GRADUATION

    At least 128 credits are required for graduation and the grant of the degree of Bachelor of Arts.
